Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra Presents "Second Looks"
Location: Sundin Music Hall, Hamline University 1531 Hewitt Avenue Saint Paul, MN 55104

A wise sage once said, “Double your pleasure, double your fun.” It’s always interesting to examine things from different angles, so we thought we would try that with music and composers. We’ve taken two composers and selected two vastly different pieces from their outputs to demonstrate their respective versatility and range. “Languages of Spring” from local composer Christopher Gable was premiered by the MPO more than a decade ago, so we thought it would be fun to hear it again so many years later. And finally, Bizet’s Suite No. 1 from his incidental music for the play L’arlesienne is being performed at our first concert this season, so why not come full circle and close out our season with his beautiful Suite No. 2? These second looks are certain to surprise, enlighten, and entertain you.

Works to be performed include:

Giuseppe Verdi Overture to Nabucco
Giuseppe Verdi Prelude to Aida
Henry Cowell Polyphonica
Henry Cowell Hymn and Fuguing Tune No. 3
Christopher Gable Languages of Spring (1999 MPO World Premiere)
Hamsa Isles, Flute and Brian Hadley, Bassoon
Georges Bizet L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2
