Statement on the RNC

With the pending Republican National Convention in St. Paul in September, OutFront Minnesota has been asked about our position on this powerful political event.

The arrival of the RNC in St. Paul will provide many opportunities to show visitors what a community that favors GLBT equality looks like.  In addition, there will be convention participants inside the Xcel Energy Center speaking out in favor of GLBT equality.  For example, for the first time, the GLBT Republican group Log Cabin Republicans has been accorded a formal role in the events, and will provide a visible reminder of the need for constructive dialogue on GLBT-related issues within the party.

It is critical to engage fair-minded people of all political parties in the work of dismantling homophobia and heterosexism.  We applaud those who work within the political party of their choice to advance policies favoring GLBT equality.

No one political party has all the answers, and no one political party contributes alone to the problems.  As a progressive organization, we expect our elected officials to support policies that provide for equality. We want to look to our elected officials for leadership. We hold equality for all persons to the highest esteem and that includes equality for GLBT people.

OutFront Minnesota is a nonpartisan organization and works with any and all GLBT equality supporters. We will continue – with your help and support - to advocate for constructive policies and positive legislation with allies of any party.
